Positive Thinking
The Enhancement lecture scheduled on Wednesday
was about to begin as we took our seats as usual in the Prof. V.K. Samaranayake
auditorium. The guest lecturer for the day was none other than Prof. Daya
Rohana Athukorala, who is a famous writer, editor, counsellor and a teacher in
the country. He specializes in the field “Positive thinking” which was also the
topic that was given for the day.
Life has many aspects that can influence the
well-being of a human. Controlling yourself within your mind is very important,
to maintain a healthy life fulfilling key aspects of life such as self-belief,
trust, happiness, emotional intelligence etc. This process of controlling is
simply identified as “Positive thinking”. Prof. Daya Rohana Athukorala commenced
the lecture and continued on using many examples from day to-day experiences
which shed light to many of the issues that the youth of the 21st
century face. Positive thinking mainly focuses on emotional stability which
consist maintaining and controlling elements like love, affection, work,
leisure etc. According to Prof. Daya Rohana Athukorala emotional stability is
ultimately affected by love. He explained in extent about how love affects
different stages of our life with the use of the concept of “Love tanks”.
·

·

These are the main stages
as he mentioned. Fulfilling these love tanks at the right age is essential for
a person to maintain emotional stability. Not having so can result in mental
breakdowns, violence and emotional behavior that affects the environment of the
person. These negative behaviors can be conflicted and resolved with simple
working techniques and advice to help you replace negative thoughts with happy,
successful and constructive thoughts. Counselling is a great way of facing
conflicts in life and can help to a great extent in reducing the harmful
effects of negativity. Learn how to build up a positive attitude and avoid
negative thoughts. You should always expect positive results on whatever the
situation you are facing. This builds up an emotional intellect within a person
and helps grow emotional stability.
Positive
thinking affects almost everything in life. From Brushing your teeth to
developing thinking power of your brain, positive thinking helps in making a
person efficient, productive, effective and influential. Many of the role
models that you find have got a good positive mindset on life and its aspects.
Prof. Daya Rohana Athukorala continued the lecture effortlessly as he was a
counsellor himself saving and helping a number of lost souls. The examples he
took from personal experience made the lecture even more entertaining.
In
summary positivity is good for every aspect of life and developing emotional
stability is key in positive thinking. The guest lecture enlightened us all in
general about many situations we face in our day to-day life. Furthermore,
Prof. Daya Rohana Athukorala gave us a Q&A session for us to resolve
additional issues we might have. Many of my colleagues responded to this
request and forwarded the Professor with a bulk of questions. He didn’t
hesitate to answer any of the questions. He explained every issue brilliantly
with the life experience he has and this session made the guest lecture even
more valuable to us, and finally the lecture ended as we ran out of time.
The
lecture was creative, inspiring, and knowledgeable altogether. I would like
thank our lecturer, Mr. S.T. Nandasara for organizing this guest lecture, and
Prof. Daya Rohana Athukorala for conducting a very interesting lecture session
that would help our future life decisions.
